In recent months, the Planning Plus team has been working closely with builders, designers, quantity surveyors and our developer clients on finding solutions for the onerous costs of full basement car parks. Unlike Brisbane, In many parts of Cairns, development sites often consist of sand beneath the surface. That coupled with the requirements for mechanical ventilation and retaining walls makes the per square metre costs of full basement car parks untenable.
We are currently working on solutions to this issue by examining podium heights for car parks and over all building heights for developments out side the CBD. More on this issue in the coming weeks.
